Floods Inquiry calls for insurance submissions
The Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry today called for further public submissions addressing the conduct of insurance companies.
Counsel assisting the Inquiry, Peter Callaghan SC, told today’s hearing in Brisbane that one of its Term of Reference dealt with “the performance of private insurers in meeting their claims responsibilities”.
He said the Commission had already received many submissions from people who responded to the initial deadline of 4 April 2011.
“However, it may be that some Queenslanders have, since that date, had experiences about which they feel the Commission should hear,” Mr Callaghan said.
“To that end, I can say that if anyone wishes to make or supplement a statement or submission which is relevant to this term of reference, such material will be received by the Commission at any time up to and including the 15th of June.”
Insurance issues will be addressed in the Commission of Inquiry’s final report, due on 24 February 2012.
