Floods Inquiry to revisit Emerald

10/08/2011

The Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry today announced it will return to Emerald to hold a public hearing on 29 September 2011.

Commission investigators will also visit Emerald next week to speak with people affected by the floods, and they have encouraged people in the area who have relevant information to make contact.

People from Emerald or surrounding areas who want to speak to Commission staff should call 0467 724 579.

The investigations are part of preparation for the second round of the Inquiry, which will also include hearings in Brisbane, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Gympie and Ipswich.

The second round of hearings will examine issues under the Inquiry's Terms of Reference, with a particular focus on insurance and land planning.

The Inquiry sat in Emerald on 24 and 25 May 2011 during its first round of hearings.

The interim report, focussing on recommendations which can be implemented before next summer's wet season, was given to the Queensland Government on 1 August 2011.

The Inquiry's final report will be provided to the Queensland Government by 24 February 2012.
